The Findability Problem

Over the years, we've worked on a lot of intranet redesigns, and there's one problem we hear about over and over: "Why is it so hard to find things on the intranet? And what can we do about it?"

There are several ways to address the problem, but the approach we suggest first is usually a revision of your intranet's information architecture (IA) and navigation.

Intranet teams usually have some level of control over how content is organized and presented, so revising IA is a task they can jump right into without waiting for budget approval or input from other organizations. But even that can be daunting, and the second question is often "Where do we start?"

With that in mind, we've given you a starting point. We've conducted user research among employees of four different companies to understand how they think about content related to human resources, benefits, and performance reviews.

It's not a one-size-fits-all solution, but since that type of content is usually consistent among larger companies, we felt confident that we could at least provide a baseline to serve as a starting point. Now we're offering that starting point to you.

Just provide us with your email address and you'll receive access to our baseline human resources IA as well as the research behind it.
